Overview of Foodstories

Foodstories is linked to my 2024-25 National Arts Strategies fellowship with the purpose of exploring the idea that food can be a bridge to who we are as individuals and as a human collective while also creating community. Certainly this is not a novel concept given the many who have either dedicated research, writing, and so many other explorations into our relationship to food.

That being said, as a storyteller and artist, I was interested in exploring the personal vignettes and stories that any one person may have about food. This could have been anything from a time when someone recalled cooking their favorite meal to other territories around food that are not so warm and fuzzy.  I was also interested in exploring how any aspect of our personal memories about food also intersects with our sense of identity, culture, class, religion, and other aspects of our human identity.
